Welcome to the first issue of FireWeed, Mindfire’s quarterly newsletter. For this first issue, I’d like to introduce myself and share ideas for upcoming issues.
First of all, I want to thank Gary Blankenship for inviting me aboard. Gary has a special place in my heart, as he was one of my first online writing friends, and has supported and encouraged me over the years. Among other endeavors, I participated in his Yeats, Keats, and T.S. Eliot hypertext poem projects.
As a poet/writer with eclectic interests and endeavors, it is my goal that FireWeed reflects this broad range of tastes. For over two years, I was the “Poet’s Workshop” columnist for writersmonthly.us, which has recently closed its cyber doors. That column will rise like the Phoenix, here, in FireWeed.
FireWeed is a resilient wild plant. Fire, while often devastating, can also be a cleansing, revitalizing, and transformative force. When the mind is ablaze with ideas, poetry--and other forms of writing--often result.
What am I looking for in submissions? No one genre, no one style, no one form, no one theme. Just as nature thrives on diversity, so too, I believe, will FireWeed. I would like to hear from you! My columns are “all about” dialogue and community building.
In this first issue, we have three unique poets/writers. I hope you enjoy their work as much as I do.
